115L Icey-Tek (Compleat Angler) Longbox

I recently asked club members if they could help me with the purchase of a Ice Box. With that help in mind, I've been doing a bit of research and found what I thought was the best box for me, although probably not the cheapest. The main reason I went with an Icey-Tek box is that they make a larger range of longboxes, which are more useful for fitting whole fish on trips away.

The Icey-Tek boxes also feature very sturdy hinges and the large rope handles make getting help in lifting a full box into and out of a boat a lot easier. Other than these little details, nearly all ice boxes are made cheaply in Asia and are almost exactly the same. Icey-Tek are made in Thailand and are shipped into WA by Compleat Angler and rebranded.

I spent the Anzac Day long weekend away up the coast, and took my brand new 115L Icey-Tek longbox with me. Friday was a late dive and very rough and dirty with a big swell. We didn't get any fish but got wet and gave my missus her first experience at sea in a little boat and a decent groundswell.

I only had a few blocks of slightly salted ice I'd hurridly made over the last week with a yoghurt container and some frozen burley to keep the food cold. I didn't think that it would last long in such a big esky but the next morning they were all nearly fully frozen. We managed to get a few more fish Saturday and Sunday, including a couple of mackeral. The first mack was filleted before going in the icebox, but the second one (around 15kg) was top and tailed and fitted in nicely on top of all the other fish and a few bags of party-ice. The party-ice was bought Saturday afternoon and was around 50% depleted or less by Monday and there is still plenty of ice left now (Tuesday morning).

All-in-all I am very happy with the icey-tek box. It is sturdy, relatively easy to carry around, keeps ice suprisingly well, and is easy on the eye (it's white instead of bright orange). The only mod I will make to it is to shorten the ropes a couple of inches to make it easier to lift, which should take me about a minute.
